Adrenal Stress

Let’s discuss stress and talk about how your adrenal glands are affected and how to support them. First of all, the adrenals are small glands that sit on top of the kidneys. They produce hormones we could not live without including cortisol (the primary stress hormone). Cortisol helps you respond to stress and has many other important functions. As you can imagine, given the stress we are all under with the state of the world, many people have issues with their adrenals like adrenal fatigue.

A common finding I see on the GI MAP test is a low level of secretory IgA (SIgA). This antibody serves as the first line of defense in protecting the intestines from toxins and pathogenic microorganisms. Think of it as a marker of immunity. There are several reasons this number could be low (gut infections, food sensitivities, stress, etc). Given that we know stress is somewhat of a factor for everyone, supporting the adrenals is very beneficial. I’ve been recommending (and using myself) a blend of essential oils that is very supportive to the adrenals. In fact, I just had someone message me recently that she is loving this blend and feeling so much better!  Here’s how to make it:

In a 10ml roller bottle, add 20 drops of each of the following essential oils:

  • Lemon
  • Rosemary
  • Basil
  • Frankincense
  • Geranium
  • Top with Fractionated coconut oil

Keep this on your bedside table and roll on the arch of the feet (this is the reflex point for the adrenal glands) each night before bed. See how you feel!
